Would like to know if these Trap Guns were marked "trap" anywhere, or were they just tricked out to be trap guns and were supposed to be recognized as such by their features?

TIA,

Tom

Back in those days, a field gun with a VR was the same build as a trap gun with a VR, but Monte Carlo stock option. There was no such thing as high ribs or adjustable this and that. Usually a trap model had better wood.

Model 70 and Pigeon Grade Model 50 given to General Lemay from Winchester. Notice the jeweled carrier and bolt.

From thread posted here from a few years back.

“The trap models have an extra long chamber extension when compared to field models. The floating chamber can be seen in the receiver cut-out which protrudes about a half inch into it, field models are even with that cut-out.”

Most of the ones I have seen have been altered in some way, usually with aftermarket recoil pads & many with Cutts Compensators or PolyChokes. Some have had ventilated ribs added. You can find these in the $250 - $500 range. If the base gun was originally a trap or skeet model with upgraded wood (but still modified in some way), you’re now pushing $700 to $900. Original, unaltered trap or skeet guns in excellent shape can run $1,000 and upgraded, engraved examples can get up around $4,000. Poke around on GunBroker & GunsInternational to get a better idea. Like almost everything else, prices for these are climbing and are highest for those in the best condition.
