Where to buy #8 Lead Shot

So here I am again trying to just reload some shells. Now I need #8 Lead Shot. I ordered 50 Lbs 13 days ago and just checked today on the status and got the "Back Ordered" blues.

Not going to name the vendor but their website said "In Stock" when I placed the order, a email from them saying they didn't have it in stock would have been nice. I played this game with classic Corvette parts for many years and learned to not accept back orders, move to the vendor with stock.

I have been playing this game for 2 weeks now gathering up everything I need to start reloading. You can't trust the websites for inventory status and/or get most of them to answer a phone. I totally gave up on the big box stores as they suck the worst.

Any leads on who has #8 Lead Shot in stock and is ready to ship?

Dennis,
Buying shot online is very expensive.
As long as your ok with that, Ballistic Products, CAC, or Midway, should be able to fill your needs.

MG, one of those places you mentioned is why I'm where I'm at right now.

I just emailed Mayco Industries that states on their website "Available by the bag or in bulk. Call today to purchase direct or for a distributor in your area". They are located 90 miles from me so a bulk pickup is doable.

They have Lawrence Brand Chilled Lead Shot or Lawrence Brand Magnum Shot, the price difference between the two is $2.50 bag. I will go with the Magnum shot if they have it.

Seems like I talked to them when I first moved back to Alabama 10 years ago and they would let me pickup at their Birmingham location.

I contacted Mayco Industries and they don't stock shot at their Birmingham location but was able to order (I think, waiting for CC charge) 50 lbs. No real big savings as cost was more and shipping less so a wash from other vendor prices.

I called around to other gun stores in the area and pretty much decided no one in N Alabama sells lead shot. I can order 50 lbs at a time for now online and as I get deeper into reloading I guess a road trip is in my future to go buy bulk qty up north somewhere.

I did talk to one gun shop about 60 miles away that carries lead shot but they were out of stock, will peel that onion back a little more at a later date. I asked the guy what size they did stock when they had it and he didn't know.

Hi Dan,
Not that I recommend buying anything from Cabelas, they do sell shot. There are three locations in Alabama, I don't know which one is closest to you, but you can order online and pick up at any of those stores for $42.99 a bag.
I have a feeling that this might be the most cost effective way for you to proceed.
Best of Luck,
MG

A quick a Google search of "reloading supplies your location" shows several businesses advertising reloading supplies. Give them a call. In person buying of shot is generally cheaper and more productive than playing the online game.

Edited to add: Sorry, I see now that you've contacted the stores in your area. Hard to believe that no one sells lead shot in an area of that size. I'd believe that they're temporarily out of stock. I'm spoiled here with several places that sell lead shot within an hour of my house. A few only minutes away!!

I tried the Cabela's online in store pickup thing but they have no stock so will not let you order. Lot of places in my area sell reloading supplies if you are reloading brass.

I have a Silverado 3500HD Duramax dulley, pocket full of $20's, vacation time on the books and there is a road near me that runs north. Push comes to shove I bet a road trip will produce results. :)

MG, well Cabela's let me process an order all the way to the end without kicking me out. Ordered 100 lbs so we will see if they produce. I have another 50 lbs on backorder through another vendor and a forum member checking on his end. My goal at this point is to get a couple hundred lbs and reorder when I get below 100 lbs and stay ahead of the curve.

Ouch! I sale and ship lots of brass, bullets and lead ingots in USPS flat rate boxes all the time. Usually double box them if over 50#s and strap with duck tape. Knock on wood, have not had that problem reported back to me. Only comments I get are from the postal clerks complaining when they see walking up to the counter using a hand truck.
