I have a Browning vest that has worn quite well. The normal wear areas where the gun rubs when ejecting shells. If your gun fits correctly and you mount it correctly there is no reason for the padded insert. I regard a consistent mount and the same level of “clothing thickness” in the shoulder to be an issue. The pad can change your length of pull, especially considering heavier undergarments in colder weather.

Any opinions on the Browning shooting vests, and the optional recoil pad inserts? The ones I have been looking at, are in the $50 range. For the money they look pretty nice. If anyone has a better recommendation, I would appreciate hearing it.
I've had 2 so far, and I've liked both. The recoil pad is nice, but it can shift around a little if the vest is loose, which is how I wear mine. The last one I bought cost me $33.

I’ve used my Browning vest with the recoil pad for years. It’s held up very well. It does run small so get a much larger size than normal. Mine seems to have shrunk over the years… though it may be my belly growing

Take a look at Shoot the Moon vests. They are excellent and worth the money

As far as recoil pad inserts...tried one once many years ago...shot a round of 25 and that was it never felt right.
Plus one to Shoot-the-Moon. My college vest was done by them and lasted for 5 years with zero issues. I still have it but don’t wear it since I’ve graduated and shoot registered targets now. The fit was incredible and I believe they can do custom sizing.

I have used my Browning shooting vest for years. Use the mesh ones for high temperatures. The winter vests will make you sweat. Wearing any vest in winter, with layers will make it snug if you are a big man. One important thing to do with the Reactor Pad. Sew it into the pocket with two small stiches to prevent it from falling out. It will fall out everytime you swing the vest up and onto your shoulders OR when you are in the Bouse House doing business and it falls in....pain in the butt I say. Not all people mount to that pads location, it works for me......

Shoot The Moon....MFG in Colorado.
Supplier to USA Shooting. Made to measure + lots of options. Many colors and trims.
Internally adjustable in the waist to take some of the weight from shells in the dual pockets
if that's an issue.
One option they offer is a dual zipper insert that's a couple inches wide to accommodate
a winter coat's bulk (or weight gain ha ha).
Approx $200 & 3 weeks delivery.

Used them for years. Durable, plenty of pockets. Rear pocket easily holds 100+hulls. Hold up well in the washing machine on gentle. Good price point. Don't need the insert if your gun fits well.

My Browning came today. I ordered large, as I am about a 42 size. It's a little bit on the big side for me. After taking up the straps on the back, up almost all the way, it seems about right, wearing a T shirt. The club mostly shoots at night, under the lights, so wearing a flannel or sweatshirt over top of the T, should be about perfect. I will find out Thursday.

I have worn the Browning vest with recoil pad for years. I did have my stock shortened for the thickness of the pad. But I do need all the help with recoil that I can get.
I like the double pocket. I put a box of loose shells in the inter pocket and transfer five to the outer for each post.
