Are too many toys a thing? Ya, it is when it comes to budget. I agree with a lot posts that suggest an O/U that fits and shoots a 60/40 POI. To cover all disciplines I suggest a 30” barrel. An adjustable comb is a strong suggestion as well. Add a couple spacers and your 60/40 is now an 80/20 suitable for singles and handicap. Not a must but an option. A good buddy shoots a Model 12 that is a 50/50 POI and he is a AA shooter. Citori’s are very reliable so you could get by with just one gun and they are affordable. I use an unsingle KX6 for singles and handicap. I use my K80 for doubles, 5stand and Sporting. Top barrel shoots 60/40 and bottom is 50/50. With the use of hangers and an adjustable rib, I can maintain my fit and change my POI for the discipline I shoot. A K80 will drop you into another budget level though.

The CZ all American trap is a good budget gun and can be bought in a combo , i shot one for a year and had 10 thousand rounds thru it with no problems. Currently upgrade to a Browning 725 combo witch can be found for a decent deal.

Any quality o/u will be fine—perazzi ( my choice), kolar and krieghoff are the best— beretta, browning, guerini, zoli, blaser are good— avoid cheap brands & turkish guns— choke tubes, adj. comb & adj. buttplate are absolute requirements ( unless you have a custom stock)— 30” bbls preferred— avoid short barrels—japanese brands such as miroku japanese charles daly, japanese skb, japanese weatherby can be good values, but usually have to add comb, buttplate & sometimes chokes

There is no reason for you to get a combo gun or 2 different guns. a double over and under with choke tubes will do all your shooting well. Go to your local dealers or a gun show and sif you can find a good used one or try the internet gun sites. There are a lot of used guns out there that would suit you fine for what shooting you are doing. Good luck in finding something that will work for you.I have purchased a few o/u used and have not had any problems.

Low volume with mostly trap and a little of other games: an o/u will be fine. Ask Mason Bartlow how shooting singles and handicap is with a browning o/u. He has numerous 100s and at least one 200, multiple 100s in doubles (5 now) and several high 90s from the 27. Works well for him.

Get a Browning O/U in a 32” barrel. A CX, CXS, 725. I have a 525 sporting with adjustable comb. I can shoot any discipline with it. I’ve got about $2500 in it and I’m very happy. An O/U is a very good all around choice.
I would second this and even add in the CXT. For a long time I shot everything with a CXT and was able to break 25's in skeet and trap, as well as putting up good scores in sporting.

I enjoy trap more than skeet although my club has booth. We also have doubles. I have over an hour to drive to shoot SC and it's more expensive. I want to buy a dedicated trap gun, but don't want a full race trap gun. I would like to be able to shoot SC and even skeet occasionally so I don't want a gun that's 100 competition level. I have been thinking about a 32 or 30 inch Browning over under. What I don't have a handle on is why do people use top single and under single barrels for singles trap and not just shoot an over under, especially if doubles is an option and you don't shoot enough ( or rich enough ) to have dedicated guns. Would I likely shoot better with a BT-99 than an over under for singles? About the only over single and two barrel set I could afford would be a used CG entry level or maybe a new Fabarms combo, but that's too much money to me for a sport specific gun. Are there world class singles shooters that just use an over under or is that some kind of handicap and why? I could see picking up a BT-99 and B gun over under and being pretty much covering all my bases if that's likely to be a big improvement
Tristar Makes an affordable trap combo. I think they are under $2000.00!
Browning Universal High Post, CXT, CXS or sporting?
I just bought a nice pigeon grade Winchester 101 trap o/u for $1500. 101s are great for skeet!

Matthew Bartholow?

When I first started shooting clays, I used what I had. A 11-87 premier, It was my do everything. Trap, skeet, hunting. It did what I asked, though it wasn’t perfect. Then I got away from shooting clays. Fast forward a few years and I decide to shoot trap again. I start looking at combo guns. I thought the idea of a single barrel for singles and the O/U for doubles was what I needed. Bought a combo and I hardly use the single barrel. My lesson was I should have skipped the combo and just got the O/U. The POI is different. I found it difficult to change. So the single just sits in the case now. I would have been better served spending the extra $ on ammo.

As most people have stated already, a CX/CXT or 680 series will serve you well. If your budget is more, I leave that to others for suggestions. Not my wheelhouse.

I have a Browning Citori CXT 32” and BT-99 plus 34” and I love them both! I have been killing it with my bt in singles and handicap. For the money you can’t go wrong with brownings. I have no complaints.
