recently purchased a like new 9000g 20ga. and a mec grabber. the bottom of the bar assembly for the 20ga.9000 is flush and just sits on top of the drop tubes. there is about 1/16" space for powder to leak. where as the grabber has the cones on the bar assembly that fit into the drop tubes. I switched them and my 9000 works just as it should with no powder leakage. did mec change parts on their reloaders

I'm not a Mec expert, I do know that there are two different measuring assemblies.
1 - welded
2 - stamped

Just from what I've read here, I'm thinking guys like the welded ones better?

Also, 9000 and Grabbers have different part #s too ?

Good question valmet - I'm excited to learn from the boys !

I have never seen a bar assembly where the holes are flush unless because it’s a 20ga. But you would still have the powder leakage??

I have 10 MEC loaders (3 grabbers, 3 sizemasters, 3 600 jrs and one old versamec) 4 of them have the cones on the bottom of the bar assembly (2 jrs, 1 sizemaster, and the versamec). The others are all flat. I would assume based on the the age of the ones I have is the older models had the cones, but that must have been 40 years ago.

think i got it . i spread that u clamp all the way down past the holes on each side. now it comes down flush on the drop tubes and not so tight. guess i should have worked on it before i hollered for help! thanks to all. dennis

Actually, those "bottle caps" were silver soldered I think! I had a 1969 vintage 650 that had the bottle caps. I had one disaster with the shot side broke off with a full bottle of course. I silver soldered the cap back on but never trusted it. I bought from mec and replaced the assembly that holds the bottles! Tom Rhoads

The newer MEC shot/powder measures are now flat on the bottom instead of having the "funnel" at the bottom. On the single stage loaders one can squeeze the drop tube holder to raise the drop tube to be closer to the flat measure bracket. On a progressive loader the best way I have found to raise the drop tube is to put an appropriately sized rubber o-ring around the drop tube.

I buy, sell and use a lot of MEC loaders and the soldered on bottle caps are damaged quite frequently in shipping. After contacting MEC to try to repair one which their fix is of course is to buy a new one I made the following repair. Using a couple of Evan Williams bottle caps that I happened to have laying around I made a couple of holes in them with a hole saw and with the help of JB Weld i repaired my own measure bracket.
