I'm struggling to find a starter gun for my 10 year-old boy. I'm trying to stay under $500 at this point. He weighs 93 pounds and has to lean way back to counter-balance a Remington LT-20 or 11-87. I considered an 870-Youth with a recoil reduction system but it's too heavy also. I don't want to go with an H&R/NEF because of recoil. He shot a Mossberg 500 Bantam pumpgun and liked it, but it had a recoil reduction system on it that put the total cost of the gun well over $600. That seems a bit silly for a Mossberg. So what's left?
The only other thing I can think of is a really small, lightweight, gas operated semi-auto -- the Mossberg SA-20 Bantam. Unfortunately I've never laid eyes on one and I'm not a fan of guns made in Turkey.
Do any of you have experience with this specific shotgun that you'd be willing to share? I'm open to other suggestions, but I've already considered the usual suspects.
