I just purchased BPI Fiocchi 12 gauge 2 3/4" clear and skived hulls, came primed with primer: 616 standard. I also
purchased Claybuster premium shotgun wads SW250-12 12 gauge slug wad reference loading data WAA12F114.
I followed the Lyman reloading manual using 31 grains of Universal. I did dust the wads with wad slick dust in bag. The first hull shows the powder is loose even though I've attempted to repack and the powder is migrating up the sides of the clear hull. This is my first attempt at reloading shotgun shells on my Lee11 loader and the outcome does not seem right to me. Did using the wad slick dust cause this or are the hulls straight sided and the wads not? I am not proceeding until I get some feed back from you guys that reload all the time! Would a 12 guage card under the wad make a difference in packing the power?
I am glad I used the clear hulls as I would never have know with Remington sts green hulls!

Flashmax gave you very good advice.

You may also want to switch to a MEC press. I started loading on a Lee press back in the 1970's. The Lee press IMO was a poor choice and did not have an adequate resizer or a strong ramming force. it worked OK on previously fired AA hulls but sometimes gave very weak crimps. I do not recall if the Lee press was adjustable.

I bought a MEC single stage Size Master and donated the Lee press to our club's yard sale. Given the cost of components and target fees, it just did not make sense to me to load an inferior shell. The Lee was OK as a starter press but the MEC was a big improvement

Also, as to deer slugs, I never tried to reload them as when I had the opportunity to take a good buck, I wanted a dependable round in my 870. I found that Brenneke style slugs, which have a plastic insert in the base of the slug to reduce vibration of the slug in the barrel, shot best in my smooth bore 870 barrel.

Today's slug barrels, with the rifle twist, are much better IMO than a smooth bore barrel. However, I could get 2 inch 3 shot groups at 50 yards with my 20” 870 barrel with rifle sights using Brenneke style slugs.
