You correct Hodgdon does not make any powder neither does Alliant. They buy, lab test, bottle and distribute. My info came from Roger at AJ supplies. I was just at his warehouse the day after Christmas. Something pertaining to EX 1.3 and 1.4 classification. He told me 700x will not be available in 8lb containers because of shipping classification. Roger deals with powder orders every day. I trust his information.

If you like Red Dot powder. Try some Titewad, or Perfect Pattern powder. If you like Green Dot powder. Try some Tightgroup /AKA High Gun powder. All 3 powders are available and priced right. Pick the powder that keeps all your load(s) pressures between 9,000 psi and 10,500 psi if you want clean burns. Lots of reloading data for all 3 powders with cheddite primers as well. break em all jeff

I've found that you need to be checking your powder sources almost daily as it's available then it's gone. I remember talking to a successful businessman about a piece of land I was thinking about buying and was wondering what he thought. All he said was buy it. So, when I find powder and it's priced reasonable, I buy it as I do not believe we will ever see the days when you could stop at the store and pick up the powder, primers or shot you needed at any given time. Besides I'll either load it or it will go good at the estate sale!

Accurate's Nitro 100 NF (now a Hodgdon product) can load everything in 12 Gauge from 3/4 Oz. to 1-1/8 ounce, and data spanning this range is now on Hodgdon's website. A wee bit less dense than 700-X, but close overall.

Edit: Somewhat faster burning than 700-X. A #27 or #28 MEC bushing should get you into the general ballpark for Nitro 100 NF.

It’s the way 700x was classified for shipping. It can be shipped only by big freight carriers not by ups, fed ex, etc. in a 8 lb container. Because of this Hodgdon eliminated the 8 lb container for packaging in 700x.
the supply disturbance is because the manufacturing equipment was disassembled in the Canadian plant and is to be set up in one of the 2 American companies that produce powder. I don’t know the names but one is owned by our government and that is where the equipment went. I understand currently the line is not back in operation yet and it’s unknown when it will be producing powder again.

I call BS. If 700X is not sold in 8lb. containers it is because of production logistics or management decisions, NOT because of "updated shipping regulations".
Smokeless powder is smokeless powder according to the D.O.T.

Nitro 100 was a flake powder that was replaced with flattened ball powder Nitro 100 NF in early 2009.

Western Powders, Inc.'s burn rate chart shows NF (flattened ball) as being faster than pre-NF (flake), and both of them being faster than Titewad.

I have enough 700x, Red Dot and Promo that l should never have to buy powder again unless l start reloading almost commercially. I love 700X. Have used it since the 80s. It will do whatever you want done. AA wads and nearly any hull and it will do it back as far and you want. But when l heard of Promo come out, and have not heard anyone talk about it lately, it shot the same as Red Dot. I like it also. Tad dirty, but l can deal with that. Have never shot High Gun yet.

I use titegroup for pistol and due to the difficulty finding 700x would like to use it for shotgun as well.
I reload federal/peters paper and can't find the hodgdon load data I need. With the 700x, I load 18.5 grains which yields 1200 fps (I don't rightly remember the pressure). I load paper hulls, one and one eighth ounce of lead shot, chedite 209 primers and figure eight wads. Can someone give some advice on titegroupe powder to maintain the 1200 fps speed. Thanks
