I recently inherited a stoeger competition combo and am looking at installing a gra-coil recoil reduction system on it. Has anyone had any experience installing one of these units, and were you satisfied with how the unit works, does it have a noticeable difference in the felt recoil?

Thanks in advance,
BWB
I got as a gift a browning xt trap gold that came with the gra-coil system from the factory. I need 15.4 lop which was an easy adjustment, it does help with recoil. if you are hard to fit its definatly worth it if not im not sure the recoil mitigation is worth it alone.

I highly recommend the Gracoil or the RAD system. However as I have installed one or two, the price you pay to get it professionally installed is worth is.. It is easy to get the pitch wrong and you also have to drill out the inside of your stock. Too easy to crack the stock if you don't have the Jig. You really don't save that much getting them installed. Not much more than installing a quality Recoil pad.
What, what are you saying? OR What is it that that you meant to write?

Most charge between $65 to $150 to install. If you don't have the jig it is easy to crack the stock. Cracked stocks are expensive to repair and most time not it is not a good option. What I am saying is have it professionally installed and you will be a lot happier. No I do not install. I pay others to do that. I love my Gracoil. They do what they are supposed to do and that is lighten the recoil. The option of changing the LOP is also a very good option.

I've had gracoils in the past and they do the job. Had a couple guns with RAD systems and also some with Ken Rucker's Bump Buster. I believed those to be better than the gracoils at taming the recoil - when properly set up and adjusted. All three do the job, I just preferred the other two systems. MHO.

The guys do nice work. I had a comb cut and the recoil reducer installed. I got the adjustable length of pull model. It makes it easy to change for the seasons. For a while it was slapping my face. After a lot of tinkering it seems to be better now.

I have had several gracoils, and one ISIS, I like both. I have always set the gracoils ~4.5 turns heavy, which is counter clockwise. I only shoot 1 ounce 1200 fps or less.
Will not shoot without recoil reducer

Works for me!

If you are planning to shoot a lot I have to agree with one of the earlier comments. Sell or trade in the stoeger competition and get something a little better. The Gracoil will be in the $4 - 500 price range installed and that is close to the value of the gun. When I got obsessed with trap I purchased a new stoeger competition and it didn't hold up very well. After a few thousand shells it started breaking down, stock cracks, second barrel wouldn't fire, top lever pretty much all the way to the left.
