These "testimonials" are cracking me up !! I do not have a clue if the formula for Hoppes #9 has been updated or not. So I will add - consider what you are trying to clean and why you are using product xxx. With break-open shotguns, the big enemy is plastic fouling. Use something that will soften that stuff and make the job easier. If you are trying to remove copper fouling from a rifle, I can only recommend to use something that will make the job go faster. If your pistol has gotten leaded up, try using a product that will ease your pain. If you enjoy endless brushing, stay with your Hoppes - put your brain on slow simmer by breathing that stuff and think about your childhood.

The majority of shooters don’t know the smell of Hoppes today differs from what they use to sell prior to the late 60’s. The chemical that actually worked the best in #9 back then was Benzene. Once they discovered it could cause cancer Hoppes stopped using it. They also use to burn Benzene back then in the original funny cars. The best carbon cleaner I have found is Bore Tech carbon cleaner, it instantly removes the carbon in my long range rifle. If you want a inexpensive bore cleaner, go to any GM or Chevy dealer and buy a 16 oz can of top engine cleaner. That’s what Butches bore shine is.

Yes I do. My wife loves the smell of it. I have a Hoppes air freshener deal in my pickup. My Dad and my grand dad used it.

I use it for aftershave! Nah, just kidding. I usually just use Hornady One Shot Cleaner an Lube with a Bore Snake and a red shop rag, but Hoppe's 9 always brings back memories of working at my grandfather's gun club when I was in late middle school/early high school, cleaning the rental guns. Love the smell to this day, 53 years later!

Yes, all the time!! I have some other solvents that I use also, but Hoppes is still my front line cleaner. Along with working very well, I guess it brings back earliest memories of watching my grandfather clean his old .30 Remington pump gun after deer season. All good!

Absolutely. It is still my choice for normal cleanings of rifles and pistols. I have a couple of calibers that tend to get more copper fouling, so they get some extra copper remover. I use a Tico tool for shotgun after every shooting session. I spray it with Break Free CLP every so often. I run a mop through 410 and 28 gauge once every 6 months or so.

With all of the advanced cleaning products on the market today for gun cleaning how many on here still use Hoppes #9 to clean their guns? When I was in 8th. grade and got my first Model 870 I remember that this was the only cleaning product on the market that virtually everyone used.
Yes, I use it to clean powder residue from the inside of my receivers on all of my shotguns as well as a bore cleaner on all of my rifles. It does a fantastic job!
