I have a Browning Grade VI made in Japan. Serial #27132PR643

Is this gun hand done or was it pressed and then hand embellished?

Its pretty none the less but when I look at it under a magnifying glass it looks hand done?

What am I really looking at?

Thanks,

Cabman

Grade II and Grade V where both hand engraved from what I heard. The grade VI was not. I believe the two I had, the gold birds and such had different contour to them. They did not look like the usual flat plated gold engraving. They seemed to be inlayed, even though they may have still been plated. Still is a very nice looking gun, both in the Blued and Nickel version.

Depending on model, I sold my Grade VI Citori Trap with nickel receiver for $2700, six years ago. The blued version sold for $2400, sold about the same time. They were both in like new condition. Hard to say what they would bring today. I would think around $3000, would be a good starting point. Wish I still had both of those. They were great works of art.

Cabman,

That is a beauty. Really nice wood. Now I really miss mine. Nicest looking gun I have ever owned. Can you show a picture of the engraving up close.

I know people will want to argue, but I have a grade 6 skeet in 20 ga. That is hand engraved and signed. I called Browning about it and their historian said if it is signed, then it was hand engraved. He even knew the engraver. I own four of these grade 6s, two skeet and two trap but only the one is signed.

I believe I read not to long ago in one of the outdoor magazines, when they took a tour of the plant in Japan, that the engraved guns are first rolled, then the lines are re-cut by hand.

Here's the link....
