Check under the bolt retainer finger (thats what I call it that runs up the center floor of the action) for dirt n old hard grease ..if it does that will keep the locking bolt from being held back behind its notch when the action is open and to keep holding it back until the action is sufficiently closed far enough pushing the finger down allowing the bolt to release into the barrel lug notch at the right time...let me know what you find Andy...dont think Ive ever seen one of those worn or broken before...

Let's try again. The locking bolt trips early stopping the gun from closing. Partially stripped it down, cleaned and blown dry. What's the fix??

 

Is the top lever dog, guide, and spring in good shape? Does it close and lock up when you hold the top lever to the right as you're closing?

Wayne, it sure does when you hold the top lever far to the right when closing. Problem occurs when you try to close it normally and the trip rod engages the locking bolt early!!

 

OK ole, now does this 99 have an ejector, ejector hammer, trip rod and spring? We will get to that later.... Without looking at this gun I'm trying to think of why the locking bolt trips earley?? Lets narrow this down. How does it lock up WITHOUT the forearm on? The top lever should LOCK to the right when the gun is broke open, with or without the forearm. Can you flip up and down the cocking lever when the top lever is to the right?

I think your top lever dog is out of time or worn. JMO

This is an early BT-99 with ejector etc. Forend on-it will lock-off-it won't. Lever can be flipped and action will then open!!
