Browning 725 Pro Trap Upgrade

I bought this as my first real trap gun and joined the ATA last season, prior I had been shooting a SKB 600 field grade in casual shoots the year prior.

I really enjoy shooting the 725 and it has every feature I wanted except one an Un-Single to make it a combo. With the Wuhan Flu going around I have had little time or availability to shoot much last season, only three registered shoots.

So here's my dilemma, I don't think I can buy a new un-single barrel for it, so do I try to find a used one on a 725 model then have a gun smith fit it to my receiver? If this is possible what would one expect to pay for the finished product?

Do I try and find a good un-single and just keep this for doubles and I'm not crazy about a BT 99 it being a top single.

I had even considered selling this one and getting a Guns Unlimited combo, but I would lose some of the Pro Trap features while gaining an adjustable rib.

I have this one set up with all the weights right now (she weighs 9lbs 14 oz) and she swings great for me.

My dream gun is a Kolar Combo, but just can't swing that now.

Sold my unsingle barrel last year -$900 - tried it on five different guns at the club - worked on four out of five with out a problem - the buyer took it in, just to have it checked out - cost him $50 to have it inked.

I have a similar dilemma. I purchased the 725 Unsingle only from GU in Omaha in January, great gun! Wish I would have gone for the combo, but got cheap. Then, started shooting doubles trap, what a mistake and so addictive. GU advised I can not add an O/U set of barrels to the 725 Unsingle they sold me. The gun is awesome and shooting it well, but wish I had the combo!

IMO, you have 2 choices. Keep and shoot, what you have and forgetaboutit!!!

Or trade your current O/U in for a combo shotgun!!! Yes, you will have to readjust the gun to your liking again. No big deal. There are barrels weights, and you can pour shot into your stock hole in the rear, to get it as you like it.

PS a BT-99 is not a top single shotgun. Its considered a mid-barrel shotgun. As are most pure single barrel trap guns. You can add-a-rib to these guns to get a more heads up feature if you like. You can also have the add-a-rib change the POI of the shotgun its added on too as well. So, you can turn your 60/40 BT-99 into a 90% POI shotgun if you like. A top single can only be had if your receiver has two firing pins. The top single uses the top barrel, while the unsingle uses the bottom barrel firing pins.

Now you have to ask yourself if buying a new combo really worth it? Good Luck on your Journey!

PS any other shotgun you buy will feel different than your current O/U anyway. So keep this in mind. Do you really want to learn to shoot and set-up two shotguns? break em all Jeff

I agree with your comments as I would rather have a combo and adding the unsingle barrel would be the best option as I really like the O/U I have. I just wish I could order it from Browning and be done with it, but thats not possible as I understand it.

I guess I'll try to find someone wanting to sell the unsingle barrel from a combo and give that a shot for a while to see what happens.
