Sorry to hear, make sure the police contact the ATF and you get a NICS number. They do that to add the serial number to the lost gun database.

That way, if any dealer tries to transfer the gun, the ATF will stop the transfer.

You may want to get in touch with the Military Police and the Gun Club on Fort Benning also.

Even though the gun has been entered as stolen by your local police department, sometimes adjoining agencies have no clue about the theft.

I believe the gun club is open to the public if I recall.

Before anyone gets in an uproar. I am definitely not accusing anyone in the military of being involved in this.

The gun is a purpose built one. Not everybody is going to be looking for something like that on the open market.

I once bought a Ljutic that had been reported "Lost" by UPS, it had never been reported to any official agency, i found out when I sent it to Ljutic for reblue and Denny called me. Took several months to get it sorted out but I wound up with the gun.
