What feet per second do you use at the sixteen yard line?

Many experienced Trap Shooters will tell you. All you need is a 1,145 fps load from the 27 yard line. So based on that wisdom, all you need for singles then, is a 1,100 fps load. I see some regulars here on TS.com that like the 1,100 fps factory loads. I believe that Federal makes them??? Its nice to have a 50 fps load difference between your handicap and your single loads. Especially if your at the back fence. Some shooters just have a hard time with the delay from trigger pull, to the target breaking if they don't speed up their handicap loads 50 fps. Good Luck to Ya. break em all Jeff

Way back in my 1-1/8oz days it was 1145. Like others I’ve experimented with 1090s and never faulted them for any lost target. I did shoot the WW 26gram @980 a few times just because ammo was limited and I had them- never got in the groove with them for 2nd bird, probably due to slow speed. Dedicated 24gram-7/8oz now and Ioad to match typical bunker loads so it’s 1325-1350 dependent on brand or my loads

I think 1100 works well. Heck, when I was still learning how to run a MEC progressive, I had some squibs where you could see the shot cloud heading for the target and if it was centered, it broke. And from what I know of ballistics, I think the law of diminishing returns really comes down on a sphere when you take it supersonic. Still, lately I've been using 7/8 oz of 8's at 1300, and like it. Low recoil, clean burn, consistent report, and no dusted targets to speak of.

You do not need premium ammunition for 16 yd in fact you should try 1 oz loads on calm days.
Since you should be shooting targets just as soon on a windy day (no double checking leads), what does the extra 1/8 ounce do?

One ounce works just as well on a windy day. 16 yards is 16 yards on any day.

Am I misinterpreting your statement?
