Wondering what cleaning rods people prefer, I have been using a bore snake and a tico tool for a while now but feel like I want something I can use to really clean things up.

I read some previous posts and looked like a number of people recommended the Barrel Wizard but that seems to be discontinued.

Didn't know if people liked those two or three piece wood ones like they sell at Jeff's outfitters or CT shotgun, or if a Dewey in brass or a pro shot in stainless was the way to go

Thanks

Just go to Pro-shot gun cleaning products. They have a one and two piece 36 inch shotgun cleaning rod. Buy the ends you want for it. Then buy all the 3x3 inch cleaning patches you want to go with it. You can try their solvents if you like as well. Get it all on one shipping order. Buy a min. of 1000 + patches at a time. Their products are impossible to beat. You can buy cheaper, but you will not be as happy. All of their products are top notch. Good Luck to Ya. break em all jeff

This. I have a tool box dedicated to shotgun cleaning for 12, 16 and 20 and it is full of nothing but Pro-Shot cleaning tools now.

They have a Military discount but you have to call to get it know what you want ahead of time before you call. Didn't know about the military discount at the time I switched to them and did it gradually but was still worth what I paid for everything. I don't use their solvent but use everything else and am sure their solvent works well also. I ended up throwing all my other shotgun cleaning supplies in the chit can some of which went back almost 50 years.

years ago I bought a rod from Frenchy Freigon. It's about 4 foot long and has an end on it that let's you step on it and scrub the barrel up and down. Use it with a 10 gauge chamber brush and it really gets the crud out. I think Tom Lawson sells them now.

IMHO, a Tico Tool does very little to actually clean the barrel. It can remove a little powder and if oiled , lubricant the barrel.
I use Ed's Red mixture and bronze brush to remove plastic. I have found surgical gauze works better than cut up paper towel the clean out Ed's Red and plastic. I then use a Tico Tool to put a little oil inside the barrel.

It really is!!! I use it after I get home. A few hours later most times. I use it after I shoot each and every time. I do not get any plastic fouling in any of my shotguns. I do have a tornado brush at home. I used it once in the last dozen years since I started shooting again. I also keep my Tico-Tools clean. I use two Tico-tools for the 12 ga. the first one is the cleaner. The second one stays very clean and gives it the polishing touch. I only use one tool for the other 3 gauges. Of course the other 3 gauges are Briley's sub-gauge tubes. They can't rust, cause they aren't made of steel. They also have the strait rifling grooves in them as well. So I want to keep them clean and allow them to do their job.
Its a very good idea to have a good cleaning rod, in the advent something happens. I like to use one after I shoot in the rain. I want to leave the inside of my barrels not only clean, but well oiled after shooting in the rain. So do buy one, and keep it handy. A brass bristle brush, and a tornado brush. Both are in my cleaning box, and good to have. For when you need it, you have it. Keep some non-chlorinated brake cleaner, and some Rem-Oil around the house as well. break em all jeff

Go to Home Depot or Lowe's and get a threaded rod 36" long. Buy a fitting to attach a bronze brush to the rod. Buy a piece of plastic tubing to fit over the rid. Go home and put the other end of the rod into your drill chuck. You can clean the entire bore of your barrel in about 30 seconds and the plastic will protect the bore from scratching.

Tipton carbon fiber cleaning rod
Bronze tornado brush
TCS o-ring jag for pushing patches
Briley turbo choke cleaner
Shooter’s Choice shotgun and choke cleaner
My blend of solvent - 2/3 Shooter’s Choice and 1/3 Kroil

It’s amazing how much gunk you can get out of a shotgun barrel that looks clean. If you’re only using a bore snake or similiar, you’re not really cleaning.

Pro-Shot one piece if I really want to scrub. Otherwise, I just pull a bore snake through 2 or 3 or 4 times. Jonathan Taylor

+1 for the Tico Tool and Boresnake... I typically give the barrels a 2-3 passes of the Boresnake, followed by a few quick thrusts of the TT and booyah... sparkling bore... quick spritz of the Rem Oil and I'm done... if it ain't broke...
