Has anyone out there reloaded 12 gauge rounds for 00 buckshot? Do you need to have a special wad to load them or is there no wad required?
For the OP, here is a selection of 8 pellet "00B" loads using popular target wads and cases with BP original buffer. 700X and 800X are current powders listed.

See page 35 in this IMR loading manual:

Note: Claybuster versions of the wads listed are interchangeable

A good source of hard cast .33" diameter 00B pellets is Hunter Supply Cast Bullets.

#00 Buck Shot, Hunters Supply

These cast pellets use a harder lead alloy than any commercial swaged buckshot. The combination of hard cast, buffering and two pellet per layer fit, give the loads above, the potential for delivering excellent patterns from tighter choke constrictions.

This thread is just timely. I just set up my new reloading area and while going through crap I found OO buck a bag of BB and a couple bags of 4s 5s I also found a bunch of Blue dot and Win Red wads. Now I need some cheap primers. While going though my reloading stuff I realized I'm missing a reloader a scale and all my CB 1 1/8 wads I got a funny feeling if I go to my sons house I might find it. Kind a proud he remembered the scale.

Buckshot Is For Bucks

In the 1950s buckshot did not exactly have a stellar reputation, but in states like New Jersey buckshot was the only legal method of taking deer. Indeed, there were even myths regarding the best choke for buckshot, as the author clearly shows. But the crux of the article revolves around a New Jersey gunsmith who found a better way.

I found at least as interesting the article, "Guns Are Our Protectors", written by a woman living on a farm in Vermont who had discovered the value of owning firearms for self-protection. It could have been written today. Found on Page 30.
