Although I don't hate the smell of Hoppe's #9, I don't love it either. I use TCS available from a vendor at this site. Works great and no odor. Prior I used BoreTech, but prefer to spend my money here when possible.

I use mostly Hoppe's #9 for cleaning since I clean my guns often and don't have to contend with a large build up. If leading or copper fouling is giving me a hard time I use Butch's or a couple of other bore cleaners I have on hand, but that doesn't happen often. Love the smell of Hoppe's and hate the smell of Ballistol.

Hoppie’s #9 was changed years ago into a more user friendly product. It doesn’t work like it did when I was a kid but I always have a pint bottle around. It’s the best thing I ever found for removing the adhesive stickers that plagues all of us.

The new cleaners made by Bore Tech Inc. in various forms work much better on rifle bores than Hoppie’s #9 ever did. Back in the day it’s what everyone used because it was nearly the only thing we had beside Kerosene. We used nothing but kerosene during my 2 years in gunsmithing school and it flat cleans guns but for the bores most of us used Shooter’s Choice back in the 70’s. Today we have many choices that are far superior to it.

With all of the advanced cleaning products on the market today for gun cleaning how many on here still use Hoppes #9 to clean their guns? When I was in 8th. grade and got my first Model 870 I remember that this was the only cleaning product on the market that virtually everyone used.
I hate the smell and seems toxic. I use G96, it was the only this I found that breaks down the carbon as quick as Hoppe. G96 seems to make my gun a lot easier to clean after a couple of uses, now I can just wipe the carbon away and do less full cleaning.
