For 4 years a HS trap shooter on our team used his Christmas present from his parents .
Coaching him, there was no way to discourage him from using the gift from mom and dad.
A very talented shooter using bad equipment.
I tried to push him into the proper equipment with no success. I even offered one of my older trap guns .

That condor had a 10/90 POI and the triggers broke 2 times in 4 years . He stuck with it and did not like any raised comb to improve it.
He averaged 47/50 with it shooting 10/90 and several 50/50 wins.
At one of our shoots there was a very strong tail wind with very low targets. He went 50/50 on the 16s and 175 straight to win the 16s with 5 other shooters in the shoot off.

I always will wonder how good he could have been with the correct equipment. He is now a proud US Marine .

I use a Stoeger Uplander SxS for bird hunting - bought it new.. and cheap (under $300). I bought it after using a Browning for a year and seeing the abuse that gun took.

It has been a great field gun. I never worry about how thick the brush is, if the wood is getting scratched, how hard it is raining/sleeting/snowing.

It feels different than the Stoeger O/U. That felt like a 2x4. The uplander feels like.. well.. a gun.

I would not consider it (or other Stoeger) for any of the clays sports. I do not think it would hold up. But for a couple hundred shots a season it does what I wanted, and amazingly, it fits me great and hits where I look. So far I have taken a few hundred birds with it and a dozen or so rabbits.

Very well put.
My brother has a Condor and I have tried to like it but just can't. Like you said it's like swinging a 2x4. He shoots it pretty well, but he probably only shoots a flat of shells per year with it.
My Uplander Supreme by comparison feels like and handles lime a gun. If I shoulder it with my eyes closed, only way I can tell the difference between it and my BSS is the Browning has more definitive checkering.
But the Uplander is a field gun and I never worry about it when I push through heavy brush when hunting.
My Stoeger has been a decent gun

one of the kids I coach had a condor , had to slam it shut, kicked him in the face ,was a real POS, thankfully his know it all dad finally got rid of it,dangerous piece of junk, the tri star that he has now is a great gun in comparison

It’s so bad that a TriStar was an improvement? That’s like, really really bad.

The question isn't what can be done ONCE...……..
Agreed. My friend only did it once, that day he only shot one round because he wasn't excited about trap. He said real birds in the south don't fly at a straight line in one direction. LOL

But the fine young man at OP's story proved he can continuously win with the worst gun you'll ever pick. Not just once.
That's a true good shooter in my book.

God bless we have him in OUR Marine.

A friend of mine bought a Condor for shooting trap. It beat him up so badly after one event at the Grand he had to stop. Two days later his jaw hurt and he was convinced he had a tooth problem. He went to the dentist and had x-rays and an exam. The dentist told him he had severe bruising of his jaw and gums but no tooth issue. I believe that was the last time he shot the Stoeger.
