I've just started wearing progressive lenses and I really like them.
Now I want to get new prescription shooting glasses.
I used to not wear any correction but now have like 20/40 for distance and need up to a +3 for reading.
Since the most important thing to focus on is the bird I thought maybe I should get only the distance prescription.
The close distance part of the progressive lenses may even make it worse I think but I thought asking here I'd get some good advice.
So Thanks to all for their advice.

Distance only. I did not like progressive lenses for shotgun shooting. Didnt like them for pistol shooting either, for pistols whatever rx makes the front sight easy to see.

My shooting glasses are distance only on my dominant eye, but I have a small line of bifocal on the non dominant eye. It comes in handy for filling out paperwork or scoring and I only look through the top 1/2 of the lenses when shooting, so the lined bifocal is never in my vision.

I could never get used to progressives even in my regular glasses, my wife loves them.

I had an optometrist that would allow me to bring a rifle to the office and after getting me close, we would walk out the back door and I would lay in the prone position and he would slide corrective lenses in front of my eye while I aimed at a distance through peep sights. Then he would mark the "sweet spot" in a place where it lined up with my sights. They really worked great while shooting, but no too good for any other use.

I wear progressives. Everyone I shoot with told me I can't shoot with them. I used them and did OK but I broke down and bought glasses without progression.

I now shoot with both and there is no difference in my scores and I see no difference using either pair.

When I mount the gun with my head on the stock I'm looking out the top of the lenses so the progressive / bottom section of the lens is not in view.

Hello. I wear lined bifocals as my normal glasses. I ordered distance only one year just for shooting. Only problem was that every time I looked down to unload and load a shell, I got dizzy for a moment. Went back to my normal glasses. Shoot well. Dave kr

DISTANCE ONLY

Been there, done that... got the crappy scores. Here’s a little test you can try to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the result will be poor. Shoot in your street glasses. As you cant your head onto the stock, you’re probably looking out of two different lens areas. For the sake of argument, maybe the left eye was in the “distance” portion and the right eye was down in the “reader” part. Did you see double or blurry sight picture? I saw double. So what’s the fix for that... close an eye, right?

The problems keep compounding. IMO, if you need to see your gun to load it, you might want to get out of shotgun sports.

Distance only. I shot oakleys thursday and we were done. Then they wanted to shoot one more. I get my stuff back out and start shooting but things didn't look clear and couldn't hit crap. Thought I must have smudged my glasses. Nope, in my rush to get ready I didn't put my shooting glasses back on and was wearing my progressive everyday glasses. I do have a small bifocal down in the corner of my shooting glasses so I can see my phone, watch , score sheet and things of that sort.

I think it depends upon each individual’s eyes. I have issues with my vision in both eyes. What works for me is distance only for my master eye. I have distance only and progressive for my non-dominant eye, and either works ok. I am almost 72.
