stock fitting is a joke. how many custom stocks did the champs of the 1950 60 70 80 use ? look at the records at the grand.
Is a custom stock required, probably not. To those that can afford both the time & expense of getting one made it certainly is a nice luxury to have. Having done it myself, I would definitely do it again.

HI,

My father bought a Browning Superposed in the early 1960s. He shot it every other week, because he had to wait for the bump on this cheek to go down. He bought a custom stock from RJ Anton (the predecessor of Hilmer). In 1968, he broke a 100 in the GAH. He lost the shoot off, but I don't think he would have been there otherwise.

I won the GAH in 1982 only after Mr Anton did some major surgery on my stock.

If you go back and read Vic Reinder's old Trap and Field articles, you will see that he shot a different stock in the winter than he did in the summer.

I expect that Dan Orlich's Mono Gun was not an off the shelf stock.

My guess is that more folks had stock work than we might think today.

That may in fact be true for trap... But for sporting, where we're now getting a lot of curling targets where line is hard to define, a well-fitted and/or properly adjusted stock is a definite advantage.

Yes. You really need to look.
Todays scores are much higher!
Not saying that it is ALL to do with stocks.
Improvements in ammunition, firearms, equipment and throwing machines also play a large part in the equation.
Show me one PRO that doesn't have a fitted stock?

Another vote for Wenig's - had a great experience with them and the perceived recoil has been considerably lessened as a result of having a custom fit stock. That said, my perception is that they are more associated with trap shooters as opposed to sporting / skeet.
