I have a Beretta vest with the gel pad insert. I (and my lady) like them so much I bought us matching full Beretta jackets with the same insert, for wearing in cold and wet conditions.

I think the pad makes a difference.

I always say to each their own. Looks like I’m in the minority here opting for no pad. I have had vests with the place for a pad and you won’t notice so it is safe to get it and you can choose either way. Pads are cheap by comparison to our other costs.

I can shoot hundreds of rounds and it’s not my shoulder that feels it. Typically for a big shoot I will shoot 700-800 rounds in 3-4 days of SC. It is more my sides and back from the rotation from recoil and the return to the second bird. A core workout. I do have the benefit of a custom fit gun and I prefer 1145-1200 FPS speeds and often shoot 1 ounce which both help.

If your a very healthy shooter, all you need is lots of ammo and targets in front of you! If you have back/neck/shoulder problems you'll appreciate all the felt recoil reduction you can muster up!! Like most everything else, it's different strokes for different folks!
