Looking for someone with knowledge of Browning Special Sporting Clays Citoris. I am considering buying a new one from Guns Unlimited Omaha and would like to know if they differ from the original models and would I be better off with an original? Without considering price, is one gun better than the other in some way? I shot trap pretty much exclusively for many years and am now shooting 5 stand and sporting clays. I have been using a Citori Plus Trap for sporting clays and I think it is time to get a more appropriate gun. Thanks in advance for any insight.

I have an original Special Sporting Clays Edition and love it.
I can't say for sure but I imagine the model sold by Guns Unlimited is the same gun as the original.
I'm sure Browning wouldn't put the same name on a gun that is different from a previous model with that name.
The SSCE is a very good all around model. I've used it for everything but now use it for skeet as I
have a Special Trap Edition for trap.

Thanks for the insight. I suspected the guns were very similar if not identical. I've never heard anyone say anything negative about the Sporting Clays Edition gun. I think I will get a new one. the price isn't bad and I figure I'll have the gun forever (or as long as I am upright)

I just bought a Browning CX and had it out- a friend picked it up and said it felt just like his old Special Sporting Clays Edition. He will be buying one shortly. Might be worth your effort to check a CX out, as I think that might save you some money. I'll probably have a little over $1500 in mine with the rebate that Browning is offering.

I have one. Love it. I have a full set of Briley tubes for it and I run it on the skeet field and sporting clays. Great gun.

Justin, thanks. I may do that. The BSSC edition with adjustable comb, no porting, is about $2k. The CX would save me some money. I am not familiar with it but may go shoulder one and see how it feels.

I have had the SSCE, the Lightning Sporting Clays and two of the Crossovers.....son to have a CX also. All the same gun in the way they feel except for the Lightning I had, the stock was different. The ones at Gun Unlimited are nice guns too, but the price is way too high and that is why they have had those same guns now for the last 4 years or so. Go shoulder a CX and you will likely buy it, for less money by a couple of hundred anyway and then the rebate on top of that.

I'm not absolutely positive but I believe the difference is barrel length 30 and 32" I bought one from GU a couple years ago. I got the 30" and wish I would have went with the 32". I shoot it for skeet, 5 stand and sporting clays and am quite happy with the performance and scores I have been shooting with it. My son shoots it for trap and it works well for him. I have used it to shoot trap but I have an XT Combo that I use so it is my backup in the event the XT would have a breakdown. I did not get any of the adjustables on mine mostly because it fit me right out of the box and I had shot a friend's prior to getting mine and decided I didn't need the adjustments.
I will say that if you can, go to GU and purchase it. Dan is great to work with and will let you pick through his inventory for your choice of wood. At least that has been my experience with GU. I bought both of my Brownings from them and have other people say the same thing about them. YMMV.

I am pretty sure you can get it with adjustable through GU. They have a local person that does the bulk of their adjustable combs rather than getting the factory Browning adjustables. He installs the Gracoil reducers also.

ACBEDDOE, ok, I think I have the answer. I called Guns Unlimited this morning and was told that the $200 cheaper price tag on each model is a SALE price on those guns. The exact quote was that the owner put a "sale price on a few of the guns". That being said, I am leaning toward the Citori CX which I can get for $300 less after the rebate.
