I wondered if anyone had seen similar inserted wood jointing that created an upper/lower effect like this classic older Winchester Model 21 TRAP grade.

I did mirror the one side to have the same profile as the other and included the picture of the lower belly with the attaching hole plugs shown. Notice the joint line and the detail that it inserts into a beveled pocket near the lower edge of the straight grip checkering panel. Plenty of figure in the wood across the comb area, to be sure.
