I have a Winchester 101 Pigeon that has an odd quirk.
If I open the gun with the stock parallel to the ground (ejecting the shells behind me), the top lever stays locked to the right, and I can reload and fire again with no problem.
If I open the gun by resting the barrels on a pad, and then moving the lever to the right, the lever fails to stay locked, and returns to the firing position. When it does this, I am unable to close the gun without moving the lever to the right, holding it and then closing the gun.
Is this a simple fix, like a spring replacement, or do I need to have a gunsmith work on it?? I don't mind doing minor fixes (firing pin replacement, etc) but I don't understand the mechanical movement governing this situation.
Thanks for any advise, even if it is 'bring it to a 'smith'!
