On an older Winchester 101, over single barrel, the ejector passes the spent shell when ejecting it, as seen in the pics. The ejector is not loose, and tried to tighten the screw holding the ejector in place, but
It was tight. This happens 3 out of 10 times.

What might be causing this? Is it time for a new ejector? Is there a specialist I should send it to?

Had the same problem with my 3200. Watched a gunsmith correct the problem. He took a small brass hammer & struck the ejector 3 or 4 times while the ejector was fully out. He explained to me that ejectors get bend & shotguns that have a long ejection stroke are a common problem. I guess my 3200 has that & he also mention this is a common problem with Browning O/U's. Thats all I can say, he fixed it & I went on my way.

I do not believe that the screw through the ejector is factory, it was probably added by someone in an attempt to tighten the ejector. Nuline Guns in Rhineland, MO still works on these and has replacement ejectors. Regards, Bob

From the pictures it would appear that the ejector is bent down from the top of the barrel.

Same problem on an MX8. Same repair by a respected Perazzi guy. Only needs to move a few thousandths not a quarter inch . light taps with lots of checking the fit between taps.

Thanks all, I ended up buying an ejector from eBay. After all the ideas provided to me, I settled on the fact that the lip that grabs the hull is highly worn (smooth, not square). So I’m trying the easy fix first, replace the ejector. Guess I’ll find out next week when the replacement ejector arrives.
