Can the Y model 12 be slam fired like the original Mod 12?? I have a Browning and that won't slam fire.

The Y model (Model 12) I had would not slam fire like the pre 64 Model 12's I own, supposedly a concern for safety ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Mine sure will. There is no mechanical difference between a Y series gun and a pre64 gun to my knowledge

Are the Model 12's as known for slam-firing as bad as the old Model 97 pump gun with the hammer?

An old buddy had one of the 97's that he almost put a slug through my foot with. He was loading the gun in the truck one morning when we were going deer hunting. When he closed the gun it went off. The slug cut a nice half- circle chunk out of the sole of my boot right next to my little toe. Scared the $hit out of both of us.

My Model 12 (1958) will not slam fire. The trigger
must be released and pulled again before the gun will
fire.

Browning M 12s have an interrupter in the trigger system and will not "slam fire". I owned numerous Win. M 12s in 12 & 20 gauges, they would all fire if the trigger was pulled and held then the bolt was closed. It is a design flaw. They were all pull triggers.
