Loved the Novi cars and was pulling for the turbine car in the 500 until it broke. The fact USAC outlawed turbine power shortly thereafter tells you something. And back in the 60's I raced "stock" cars (jalopies) and when the engine started to smoking, we'd pour in more STP. It's still a great engine assembly lube.

Lost due to a $6 bearing failure in the transmission.

Point in fact, USAC did not DIRECTLY outlaw the turbine. Instead, they limited the intake area, which limits turbine output. The effect was to bring the turbine more in line with piston engines for power output. Since there was now no advantage over piston engines, the turbines eventually fell by the wayside.

I remember the front wheel drive Novis at Indy, '57, '58. Whisper quiet in the pits, and the damnest howl you ever heard at full chat!

We used to fill the shocks with STP on production sports racing cars to stiffen them up.

A friend of mines Father was a rep. for Wynns and said their tests vs STP were superior.
