I do not think that there is a season for Sandhill Crane in Kentucky. Several years ago, while deer hunting in Western KY, near the Ohio River, a large flock of 50 - 100 birds or more landed near our camp site in an open area. They are a magnificent bird and look to stand over 4' tall or more. Here in Louisville, KY, I often hear their distinctive call as they fly overhead at a mile high or more.

Here in South East Arizona they are hunted, two bag limit by drawing. They show up right when our winter hay is sprouting--500/600 birds terrorizing our crop!

I sure wish they would open up a Crane hunt in Florida! Maybe someday, when they finally realize they are thick as fleas down here.

I grew up in Minot, ND and there was always an abundance of Sandhill Crane's at the J. Clark Salyer refuge around Upham and Kramer. Every once in a while, big flocks would land just outside of our goose spread.

I don’t know if they still do it but Kansas closed Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivera refuge to all waterfowl hunting whenever the Whooping Cranes came through.

When you shoot one from a flock at altitude, they look to me much like what a Pterodactyl would look like falling. All wings, neck and legs! Would hate for one of those bony guys to fall on me!
