I'm a member of three fine local clubs. My primary club, the Capital Area Sportsmen's League in Lansing was hosting the annual Michigan Youth Hunter's Shoot this weekend and was closed to member shooting.

Saturday at 10:00 AM I went to the Durand Sportsmen's Club, which has five trap fields, one skeet field, and maybe sporting clays. (The last time I asked about it I got a blank look from the person in charge. He sent two trap kids to look for it, and I don't think they've been seen since.) Including me, there were only nine shooters total by the time I left at noon.

Sunday at 10:00 AM I went to the Oak Hill Gun Club in Portland which has four trap fields, including wobble, a nice five stand, and a great sporting clays course. I shot sporting clays with another shooter from CASL who showed up. When I left at noon there had been five shooters all total.

Where is everybody?

I can't believe I didn't start shooting trap until 16 years after I left Michigan. I used to fly out of Mason all the time, right over the big trap field, didn't even know what it was. Oh, well. Opportunities missed...

They were all at Mt. Morris in New York. Must have had 15+ squads of singles and who knowns how many HDC. All shot over 4 traps. What a great little club.

They also shot doubles all day on the practice trap.

We had over 75 shooters at the Fennville Rod and Gun Club. Also had some good walleye!

We shoot buddy calcutta's which cost $10-$15 and you can win a good chunk of change. I think that may be the secret.

This has been one of the most brutally hot summers all over the country that I can remember. I think a lot of shooters are at home with their air conditioner on.
