When did the Winchester Double A change the hull to the Winchester AA HS? What year did it change? When did the Remington Premiers change the hull to the Rem. STS? What year did they switch? Also when did the Activ Target shotshells go out of business? I know that Kent took over the Activ plant shortly thereafter. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure which year but it's been "awhile". Probably a bean counter decision based on manufacturing cost. The two piece HS hull is cheaper to produce. Remington went to STS a good time ago also. The STS is the same basic design (still a one piece hull) and Remington load data remains the same.

Of course it was a financial decision and yes they are cheaper to produce; large companies are rarely altruistic in their decisions. When their CF tooling reached the end of its life Winchester replaced it with the industry standard straight wall tube and added a tapered base wad instead of having new CF tooling custom built. Otherwise you would not be able to afford the shells.

...and you can expect Remington to do the same thing in a few years when THEIR CF hull tooling times out.
I had heard at the time that Winchester bought out a European Co. tooling to replace their worn out machines. Not sure if it was true but that is what was going around at the time.
