My Bt 99 has the letters "RT" in the serial number. Isn't there a way to know what year it is from those letters? Thanks Dwayne

The 1976 and 1977 BT-99s with RR and RT in the serial number are very desirable guns to own because their POI is higher than the guns made before and after those years.

You got that right the RR and RT BT99s are sought after very highly, Best BT99s ever built w/o gold options.

The rib on the high shooters has a steeper slope. A cover article in a 1976 American Shotgunner magazine said the then new BT-99 Competition Model was designed to shoot 10 inches high at 40 yards.

From '68 to '75, the year was part of the serial number. From '76 to present, this is the BT-99 date code.

Z=1

Y=2

X=3

W=4

V=5

T=6

R=7

P=8

N=9

M=0

78, and 79, they changed them again, due to complaints. I don't recall if they shot higher, or lower.
