Got this in an e-mail at work. I copied and pasted I hope it comes out alright.

How many zeros in a billion?

This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the word “billion” in a casual manner, think about whether you want the “politicians” spending YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency put that figure into some perspective in a press release.

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh, let's take a look at New Orleans.
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D) is presently asking Congress
for 250 BILLION DOLLARS to rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number.... what does it mean?

Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New
Orleans (every man, woman, and child) you each get $516,528.

Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your
home gets $1,329,787.

Or... if you are a family of four... your family gets $2,066,012.

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt... We had the largest middle class in the world... and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened?
Can you spell “politicians!”?

And I still have to press "1" for English.

I hope this goes around the USA at least 100 times

What the heck happened?????

"...Can we, who man the ship of state, deny it is somewhat out of control? Our national debt is approaching $1 trillion. A few weeks ago I called such a figure, a trillion dollars, incomprehensible, and I've been trying ever since to think of a way to illustrate how big a trillion really is. And the best I could come up with is that if you had a stack of thousand-dollar bills in your hand only 4 inches high, you'd be a millionaire. A trillion dollars would be a stack of thousand-dollar bills 67 miles high. The interest on the public debt this year we know will be over $90 billion, and unless we change the proposed spending for the fiscal year beginning October 1st, we'll add another almost $80 billion to the debt..."

If we have $700 Billion to $1 Trillion for the FM/FM bailout, tens of billions for the auto industry, the _____________ industry,,,,where does it end?

Not to make light of the situation, but if my math is correct 1 billion seconds is 31 years 8 1/2 months, not 49. So 1 billion seconds ago was 1977 not 1959. And 1 billion minutes ago was the year 106, A very long time ago, but after christ's death and resurection.

MXSHOOTER - I came up with a billion seconds to be 31.7 years, but I did a little rounding.

Big numbers are well beyond the ability of my mind to comprehend. Is there any real difference between the distance of a star that is 1,500 light years away and a star that is 1,800 light years away? How far can light travel in just 300 years?
