I'd recommend the Luger Handbook.

There are a lot of fake marks out there and a lot of claims of "this gun was SS", etc. used to jack up the price on an otherwise run of the mill Luger.

I used to own two, doubled my money on them in ten years. They were both

"42" code Mausers with matching parts and nice bores. I shot each one once
(meaning a mag full or two).

Shootable Lugers like stiff loads - at least 124 grain or really hot 115s

The gun felt nice in the hand, but I couldn't see the sights worth a damn.
