Major rain event in San Antonio that will continue over several days. Flash floods. Lightning too, and you can't shoot in lightning. Main Event was always 300 targets shot over four courses and four days. Finishing that in doubt.

But an extra complication is that they allow some shooters to shoot their 300 targets on the weekend before. And they allow still others to shoot their 300 targets on Monday and Tuesday. Those shooters are done, and their scores recorded. Now the rest of the shooters are facing a washout.

Too clever by half.

What a mess.

In my opinion, we all know that one of the top 50 shooters is going to win the Nationals, that is just being honest. I have always suggested these shooters shoot the same rotations, that way all of them shoot under the same conditions. Most all of these shooters are on a schedule that allows them to do that. The rest of us mortals are just here to have fun shooting targets and socialising with old and new friends.

This years targets have been great, testy yes, but targets that all levels can enjoy and learn from.

It's a tragedy when bad weather hits these major events! I flew down to pick up a stock for my DT11 Sporting that was worked on by a buddy in the vendor area. It was an good excuse as any to go looking at gun stuff. Bad days on the ranges...but booming crowds for the vendors!

The lengthened format allows for more shooters, increased revenue and the probability for bad weather that can tip the scales.

Sportshot- If you're going to pull quotes from other sites, it is common courtesy to cite your source, since half your post comes from RLW2 and half comes from me...

This isn't the first time that the club at San Antonio has flooded. Leo and I were there at a fall handicap (I remember it was in late Oct, because we joked that it was my birthday shoot.) No one can control the weather, which is why I don't favor a telephonic Grand. The variables can be a factor at a single site, but when you multiply those variables over several sites, the chances of one site having an advantage over the others greatly increases.
