Went to a new Super Wal Mart store in Rosemead, Ca (6 miles east of L.A.) yesterday to see what they had in shot shells. Was shocked when told they do not sell ammunition. When asked why they said: "Because there is a school across the street" This store is 6 months old but they made no attempt to hide the fact that this store sells baseball bats, both wooden and metal, loads of long fishing knives and if you wish to hurt someone real bad their shelves are loaded with such items. My only question is: Where is this University of Stupid located that the decision makers of this policy graduated from? Simply unbelievable. Bob in Los Angeles

Bob, is it possible that Wal-Mart has no choice and is simply following the law? Why not get the facts before you start throwing out the "s-word" or it is likely to apply to you.

I think Sam Walton is spinning around in his grave so fast he has to surface sometime soon. What he started is now run by the communists. I try to boycott walmart as much as possible.

There are Federal Laws that must be complied with when in a school zone, Airport, Federal Buildings Etc ... This does not surprise me at all because of the little darlings across the street, who knows what evil lurks in their little minds ... Hell, they restrict Porn and adult enetertainment in the area of shools also, like that really matters ... Its not like it used to be anymore since a few things have happened in the schools by some little loved one who got pissed at some classmates ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

In several areas of L.A. County and city, the towns have passed ordances restricting ammo sales and gun sales. I remember before I left LA it was being near a school no ammo, gun and alochol sales and Rosemead was one of the towns that passed these restrictions. It's the sign of our times.

They probably sell paintball guns and paintballs so the kids can learn to shoot other people at an early age. God forbid they carry clay targets and shotgun shells. JOND

JOND, my GF co-manages the sporting goods department at a Walmart near me and I believe during one of our conversations she told me a person has to be 18 or older to buy paintballs.

Bob, you should be buying them from our club anyways..lol

I rarely bother with the local Wal-Mart anymore. They don't keep the shelves stocked with shotshells, my main reason to go there. It's not worth wasting the fuel and time to find a bare shelf.

the Wal-Mart at the corner of Pawnee and broadway in Wichita, Kansas quit selling guns. Plenty of ammo but no guns. want to know why? I am not sure how accurate this is but it was somewhere along the line of this particular area, which is right across the street from a police substation, is in a part of town known for high crime and since mostly convicted felons and illegal mexicans shop there, more people would fail the background check than those who would pass it. There are like 5 Wal-marts in town and this is the only one who quit selling guns and now the gun cases are extra storage for shotgun shells, which they increased stock levels of by 20%.

I have flamed Walley World for a long time on this forum.
All you all say'YOU ARE AGAINST FREE ENTERPRISE" Wrong, they are the worst busisses to shop. Read the above. Wal-Mart is bad for shooters, translate that to shop the small guys, they will give you the best price. They do the same things you do. What has Wally Wold Done for you Lately?

Walmart is a business. Not many businesses can operate with the low low profit margins that guns and ammo deliver. "For the most part", Walmart's decision to back out of the gun business is a simple business decision. They make more money on a couple of pairs of sneakers than they do on an 870. If you were in business, you would do the same thing or your business would not survive. More and more people need to sign up for a basic Econ 101 class. It's rather hypocritical of those who bash Walmart for not carrying what they used to carry and at the same time bitch about the small gun shops going out of business. It's the same people who stopped going to the small shops in favor of Walmart's prices who helped create the shortage of Mom and Pop stores in the first place. You helped create this Walmart monster and were happy when it served your narrow interests, but now piss and moan because you have to pay $.50 more for a box of shells. Take off the blinders.

If it was simply the margin WalMart wouldn't be selling electronics, CDs, DVDs etc. WalMart will continue as long as volumn gives them a profit and the local laws allow them to sell. There is a lot more than profit margins and volumn. Most store managers can't even justify their own actions.

Building a new Super Wal-Mart on 47 acres just North of our City. They have one regular store about 1/2 mile away that quit selling guns. I don't think they sell ammo either.

I wonder if the new store will sell ammo? I don't care about the guns since I try to buy from someone who supports shooting sports.

Can a community of 9000, and a county of 18,000 support a new Super Store when we have 4 Wal-Mart Super Stores all within 20 miles of our City?

I went in our Wal-Mart yesterday to get some batteries. The display was gone. When I finally found a salesperson, she said they had moved it to automotive this week. I asked, jokingly, if they moved it every week. She said yes, a lot of displays are moved weekly or regularly so shoppers will have to look thru other items before they find what they want. She didn't seem like a dedicated employee!!

What really is unbelievable is that so many let the liberals and their allies in the news media turn a great American success story like Wal-Mart into an ogre. There is no hope when conservatives bite on such BS.

Just how many guns did you buy at Wal-Mart? I have NEVER been to ANY Wal-Mart that sold a trap gun. Look in your safe and see how many guns you have that you bought at WM and then post how many so we can know it was a great profit center for WM. I mean, c'mon....I understand if they stop selling shells, but guns. I own over 10 guns and not ONE was bought from WM. Fess up now I am really curious just how big a profit center YOU were to the WM gun department. Jim
