Are there different types of Tung oil?
I ask because many years ago our preacher gave me a bottle of what he called Tung Oil. It was different from any that I have found since. It had a viscosity more like a syrup than a liquid. It filled the grain quickly and got really hard. All he could tell me was that he got it from an old man at a wood shop in the Texas Hill Country and it came in a barrel. Thanks for any information you may have.

Most tung oil products are thinned versions of pure tung oil - the pure oil is fairly thick, most products made for gun wood are much thinner from the dilution...

Hope's 100% pure tung oil may be what you are looking for to get a true hand rubberd oil finish.
Read the labels anything with petroleum products in it probably not what you want.

I use Formby's and Minwax tung oil for stock work regularly, particularly sealing. Tung oil has the highest water resistance of the commonest finishes. Besides internal sealing it is great for checkering as well because of the water thing. Good Stuff
