It is a good powder in the 28 and 2o. I think it is too slow burning for standard 12 gauge target loads but, the "back at the porch Boys" load it a lot for "Annie Oakleys" and protection shoots. They sound very much like a 105 MM Howitzer when you shoot them in those loads!
I am primarily a "Pot" shooter and shoot Annie's and other games at long distance. I have used Longshot in the 12 ga for a long time. Either 28.5 grs or 30.5 depending on the how much lead. I always have at least 30 pounds of Longshot here! Love it. Lorrie
Don't remember the exact powder charge we used to use, I know it was 1 1/8 of #5's with an AA12 wad in a 12 ga AA hull, and we used them for everything from shoot-offs back in the parking lot, protections, even went as far as (successfully) turkey hunting with them out to 35 or so yards. But slide action is right, they do sound like a freakin Howitzer, especially out of a ported 30" barrel.
Just bought some yesterday to use for a protector shoot off load. 33.4 grains of powder win 209 primer windjammer wad 1 1/8oz of 6s all packed in a nitro hull for 7700psi @ 1420fps (thats what the book says aleast) works great 35-40yds behind the thrower lol
