On June 14th, 2014 the Minneapolis Gun Club will be hosting the 1st State High School Athletic Association Sanctioned Trapshoot in America.

Thanks to the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League for their diligence and hard work, the youth participation in Minnesota shooting sports has grown from a few students to 5000. Approximately 3000 of those students will be competing over 4 days at the Alexandria Shooting Park to qualify for the 1st ever tournament. See the above website for all the details.

2014 MSHSL State Tournament
Saturday, June 14, 2014 • Minneapolis Gun Club • Prior Lake,
Minnesota will become the first and only state high school athletic association in America to sanction a trapshooting tournament.

On December 6, 2012, the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) approved a presenting partner state tournament with the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League for June 2014. When this occurs, trapshooting individuals and teams will be recognized as high school sport champions like all other high school sports in Minnesota.

Unlike the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League’s State Tournament that invites all participants to compete, the MSHSL State Tournament will invite a select number of top performing teams and individuals to compete in a single-day competition and champions will be awarded covenant Minnesota State High School League trophies.
Qualifying for the MSHSL State Tournament.

All participants must be members of the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League and be in grades 7-12 and in good standing with the Minnesota State High School League. Qualifying individuals and teams must provide their own firearm, ammunition, eye protection, and ear protection. There is no cost to individuals, teams or schools who participate in the State Tournament.

Team qualifications: Determined at the 2014 Minnesota State High School Clay target League’s Championship June 6-9 in Alexandria. Top finishing teams per Class per day from the Championship TBD. Approximately 20 teams will qualify. Teams will be comprised of 5 student athletes and 2 alternates as determined by the head coach of the team. The State Tournament will be comprised of 4 rounds of 25 targets each.

Individual qualifications: Top 100 and ties using the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League’s regular season average. Individuals must compete in all five competition weeks. The State Tournament will be comprised of 4 rounds of 25 targets each.
State Tournament schedule.

Friday, June 13: Practice all day until dusk.
Saturday, June 14: Morning – Team competition, Afternoon – Individual competition.
Monday, June 16: Alternate State Tournament day if Saturday tournament is cancelled due to inclement weather.

Thanks Tim, I will certainly find something for you to do that day. We're expecting a lot of people and we certainly want it to run smooth. We've been working on this for a while now and are elated to be able to host it.

Above is another link to the MSHSCTL site.
