Just returned from a County Meeting with the National Forest Service and the Forestry Fire Teams. In an area of 25 miles from my house we have 25 fires. However, North Carolina, Tennessee, Southern Georgia and North Florida are all suffering. The nearest fire to me is about 5 miles and it's 9000 acres and only 30% contained. It's suppose to get worse with a low humidity cold front coming in this weekend. This beautiful part of God's country is being ruined. Please say a prayer for our Fire Fighters and also for some Rain. Thank you.
My youngest son is a volunteer firefighter and he posted an article today about the death of a volunteer firefighter who succumb to the injuries he received fighting a brush fire.
The Bell County Kentucky Firefighter Rodney Collett died Thursday from injuries he received fighting a brush fire on October 29.
Sounds like you and I must live very close together. I live close to the ones in the South Mountains. My favorite state Park has been burned and I'm really concerned for the trout fishing I love to do there because of all the ash run off.
Live north of Chattanooga, TN on a mountain. We have had 3 major fires in the last 10 days. All are within 5 to 7 miles of the house. Thankful that all are mostly contained. Have watched National Guard Blackhawk helicopters dip water in Soddy Lake (a backwater of the Tennessee River) for over a week. A plane that drops fire retardent makes its turn to approach the fire areas over our house. Many of the fires have been set by arsonists. A few of them have been apprehended. There are so many fires in Tennessee that the three closest fires are being managed by personnel from the Florida Forestry Department. We can't thank the firefighters who came in here enough for the wonderful job they are doing. This will be the driest year on record in the Chattanooga area. Long range projections are that we may not receive significant rainfall until February or March of next year. Please keep the prayers coming. We are praying individually and in church.
I know there are fires all up through east Tennessee but I don't know about Maryville. I will be going through Maryville tomorrow on my way to Wears Valley. I will let you know what I see tomorrow evening.
