Congrats to both of you. It always makes me happy to see a kid grow up being able to participate in a shooting sport. Unfortunately for my son, he grew up in communist country (NJ) and never had that opportunity. I had to tell him all the time when we went to the range, no pictures and don't discuss this at school.

Dad: help him mount that gun a little higher on the shoulder. That will allow him to keep his head more upright. Teach him to bring the gun up to his eyes...NOT bring the eyes down to the gun.

Looks like you havea winner! From personal experience, don't expect to beat him for long or get sympathy when he crushes you. Once it starts, it a lonely road to being called added money at home.Proud of this boy, ten years old and has come so far in about a year! Finished second in his div this past weekend

Enjoy it while it lasts. The phase where they're embarrassed to be seen with you happens. Then it'll be eye rolls and everything you propose will be stupid. Ask me how I know.
Nothing like putting a positive spin on things...

I'll tell you a funny one on me and my son, we call him Trapper. I took him to Ohio State Shoot, shot 200 singles. Trapper was shooting a Browning BT 99 that had two 32 inch barrels, one of which I sent to Briley the day I bought it at the Grand. Cut of a little over 2 inches off the barrel, new bead, back-bored, forcing cones, ported, extended choke tbes, shortened stock, all trying to decrease recoil. He was shooting some reloads, ⅞ oz, I didn't think they were very good. He only weighed about 80 to 85 lbs., 11 yo, but he was as strong as teenage mutant ninja turtle. Broke 140 of 200, his first registered targets. We went into a vendor's building and I asked him to read the eye chart. He struggled with top letter "E", blind as a bat, terribly nearsighted and I didn't know it! I felt like the village idiot, 11 yo and couldn't see 15 feet and I'm unaware. Broke 140/200 and vision of a blind ape. I asked him what did he shoot at and he looked at me and said "I see color and I shoot in front of it." From the mouth of babes, see it, shoot in front of it.
I got him glasses, now he beats me.
