Cutting that barrel is a crime against humanity. I shoot with a guy that has an old 1100 (or 11-87, I can't remember which model came that way) trap barrel that had the stepped bore and screw chokes that he cut down. I almost can't stand to look at it. 😥

I shot with a one armed guy, who was pretty good, a long time ago He shot a 26" barrel 1100, as he said he couldn't move a longer barrel effectively. Whatever floats your boat.

Saw an old savage fox side by side double barrel a few years ago at a pawn shop that someone had cut 4 inches off of look like with a hack saw. Sometimes people don't give much thought before they do something.

Whys that? Choke dictates the pattern not barrel length. Velocity is off just a little. Sighting radius and weight ballance might be the only downside. Sometimes over the years Ive wondered if we use long barrels just because that what has always been used???

A shooter at our club uses a 28" O/U for trap. sporting clays. and breaks them all. Guys with high end guns and 32" barrels don't let this guy shoot with them anymore. LOL

I think they ruined the end of the barrel trying to get a stuck choke tube out. Whats left to do besides cut 4" off and sell?

Have you ever patterned a cylinder bore shotgun? That barrel came from the factory with the finest choke that Remington may have ever produced and now it is a single shot house gun.

That barrel never had a choke tube.

As a matter of fact I have. I used Teauge super extended chokes in my MX8. True Cylinder and Skeet chokes with #7 steel shot were my Quail and Dove setup. It may have come with the best choke Remington ever made but how do you know it never had work done to it?

Its not like its cut at 18". Now its a 26" 870 barrel. Sight radius is almost as long a s a 30" O/U barrel. Rechoke it and its a great barrel.
