I have a 1942 16 ga. Model 12 and am thinking of trying some slugs through it for Deer hunting if I can find some. The gun has a Mod choke and is in good shape. Any advice?

The mod. choke may be the most accurate of the smooth bores with a rifled slug. I've had two that were very accurate out to 75 yards!

MGM, if you can locate them, try Rottweil or Brenneke slugs in your 16. They are far more accurate than any of the FedRemWin brands and as a bonus, they are a full 1-ounce where the FedRemWin offerings are 7/8 ounce. The Rottweil and especially the Brenneke are cast with helical driving bands that provide the accuracy. You can get both the loaded ammunition and the slugs by themselves if you reload as I do. I use them in both a FN Browning A-5 and in any of my 16 gauge Remington 1100s. It is a pity that FedRemWin can't or won't make a decent slug round for the 16.
