Skeet gun or Sporter

I know there is a great wealth of experience and knowledge out there, and I don't know if this has been asked before.
Can you guys tell me, if the barrels on a dedicated o/u skeet gun are set to throw a regulation skeet pattern from both barrels at the distance skeet targets are normally shot at, say 20-30 yards?
Would a shooter be hindering himself by shooting skeet with a sporter with skeet chokes fitted, when a sporter I presume is set to throw it's regulation pattern at 40 yds.
Regards Clutey.

If both guns have the same bore diameter, then the only consideration is chokes. Use a skeet. Tube and your pattern should be close enough to make no difference at 21 yards. That is the longest shot a decent skeeter faces.
