Should the ATA create a new Category: "Super Senior Vet"

3962 Views 83 Replies 52 Participants Last post by  Mike0251
It's been talked about for a long time and with the higher percentage of senior shooters populating our clubs and shoots, the time seems right. Please vote in the yes or no poll and share your thoughts. BTW, I'm 83 this summer and not able to participate in 200 target championship events any more. I think that such a classification might address some of these issues Thanks.

They should add this category and dump the Sub Vet category.

Junior Gold needs to go also.

We need 16 more categories so everyone can be in one.

I like the name Super Senior and detest Elder Class. That sounds like something dreamed up by a sociology professor. If Super Senior does not cut it, how about a Geezer Class? And I am entitled to my opinion being 82. There is a noticeable change in shooting somewhere around the age of 75 and certainly before 80. Sure, there are some good scores, but they are less frequent, and gone are the 300 bird days. My take is that we are just lucky to still be shooting.

The ATA seems adamant in their stance not to increase the number of categories, and every time the idea of dropping Sub Vets and/or Junior Gold, the answer is a resounding NO. I suggest some nose counting on their part, I think that they would be surprised at the number of 75+ shooters that are still active. My suggestion - Seniors of the ATA world unite, we have nothing to lose but our subservience to a bunch of whippersnappers.

No, we don't need more categories... we need less. We're about one category away from participation trophy category. IMO, class, yardage and maybe men's/lady are more than enough.

All these classes, categories make figuring out shootoffs and payouts a nightmare. Show up, shoot what you can or are able to, go home. Stop overthinking and over complicating everything.

I always declare my Special Category as "Unemployed Adult" and I usually win but No trophy.

Too many categories as it is. If something has to be done, simply adjust the age numbers up a bit.

Too many categories! Get rid of JG, LD11, SubVet, and remember you don’t have to declare a category If you don’t want.
Look at the number of open vs category shooters. Everyone gets a trinket.
Unfortunately this is the way and will not change nor will they even think of discussing it.
The leadership is a bunch of “Coprolites!”

what ever happened to everyone shooting and the winner - period - getting a trophy? You know, the person with the best score?

I agree with super senior category. With the improvement of medicine, healthy elder adults can live longer than the previous generation.

However, I do believe in consolidating the categories.

Make Super Senior above 75 years of age.

Vet will be 65-75.

Remove Junior Gold and Sub-Vet.

Still keep subjunior the same age.

Make Junior 15-21.

I'm fine with keeping Lady 1 and Lady 2.

Exactly right! The sub vet is not needed, and a super senior category would help some of our long time shooters.

Yes! Get rid of subvet and jr gold and add super senior +75 . Would be very fair and helpful to our long time shooters.

Just to stir the pot a bit. In this age of sexual diversity why is there still a Ladies category ?

It separates trap shooters from skeet shooters. But seriously, do targets/guns/ammo know the difference between male and female? Shooting sports are about ability (it appears I have very little).

No , there’s too many categories now and the expense to run shoots are high now . Adding a category, adds trophies.
