Have a three-rail (round poles) fence.

How far from the fence would I have to be in order not to damage the fence when shooting #7½ shot from 2¾ dram loads ?

50 yards ? 100 yards ? 300 yards ?

There is nothing past the fence except my empty fields for over a mile. Then there is a mountain that is on my property with nothing on the mountain either. Am just too lazy to replace the rail fence next spring.

Probably very little damage would occur at 100 yards, the shot might dent the wood a bit. At 50 yards you would be able to chew the wood up some but if you are shooting clay targets in the air what is the probability of the fence getting hit? 200 yards is a very safe distance.

when we mined shot at our club the majority of the shot was at 200-225 with quite a bit at 250. We shoot games with some bigger shot and loads
