A discussion has ensued over using hot loads at my local gun club. The claim is that the heavy handicap loads (1 1/8 oz) made by Winchester, Estates, or any reload over 1200 fps will eventually cause eye problems such as detached retinas. Is there any truth to this theory? Thanks for any input.

Overreaction in my mind....12ga target loads even of the heaviest kind wouldn't detach retinas ,..the threshold for that kind of eye damage realistically starts in larger caliber magnum rifles..for folks with undamaged eyes to start with ...it would still make a handy excuse for missing though ; )....LOSS! "UhOh, my retina must have detached on that target"
