Can anyone think of good drills for a HS shooting team (Please consider all skill levels)? The only one I can think of -and use- is cross drills. Cross drills are when you shoot twice while holding on/over the left side & right side of the house. Your 5th shot is holding on/over the middle of the house.

what I get from that is each shooter, regardless of station, calls for and shoots at two birds while holding on the left corner & right corner of the house. The fifth shoot is taked while holding over the center of the house.

Move stations and repeat.

Tom, you are correct. EdSy, in other words, what are good shooting drills that a Highschool team can use to improve their scores.

Pull for them with the button.They will learn not to move the gun before the target appears.Throw in some fast and slow pulls.You'll be surprised at all the crazy action you'll see.

Set machine fixed on hard right start with one shooter on station 1 shoot 5 shots then move to station 2, have another shooter start on station 1 so you now have two shooters, keep moving and add shooters until they have all shot to station 5 and drill is over .
now set on hard left and start shooters from station 5 and work backwards up the line adding shooters as they move.
good drill to learn hard angle leads, if a shooter has a problem lets say hitting the angle from 4 have them go between 3 and 4 until they can hit target correctly then move to back to 4 and continue on

Shoot a box from each station. Toss an empty in the direction that you missed. Then set the machine for the missed target & shoot another box. Repeat this for all 5 stations.

5 shooters 1 at each station at the 16 yrd. line, first shot from the 16, the second from the 18 and continue to move 2 yrds back each shot 20,22,24. Everybody moves to next post and shoot it again.

zoot, isn't that exercise for trying to learn handicap? We only shoot from the 16 and 19 yard line..

Start on the parking lot. Unload 5000 rounds of ammo. Stack it handy to the firing line. Get shotgun and ammo and make ready for post 1. Mount shotgun and call for target. Break target? Call for another. Break that one? Call for another. Miss? Run a lap. Start over. Every missed target is a lap ( or pushups [at least 10] ) No mercy.

The rumor is that Ray Stafford got to the 'big dog' category that way.

Hang a tennis ball on 4-6 ft string with the ball at a height of 6-7 ft. Stand back and hit the ball then follow it with the gun as it swings. Have a squad go out for practice, at ready have everyone mount their gun. Only one shooter will call and shoot the bird, the other 4 will track the target and a broken piece. Both drills will help train to stay in the gun and track a target and the tennis ball is extremely inexpensive and 1 shooter in the squad saves 80% of the cost, you can rotate the shooter in drill 2.
