Accidentally loaded a couple of boxes with the wrong powder drop. When dis-assembling the shells to save the components, some of the Cheddite primers are missing the red wax covering the flash hole. Are these still OK to re-use or should I toss?

As long as you have such a small amount I’d just shoot them for practice. I wouldn’t use once-fired primers as they don’t go bang, but reclaimed I’m sure will work fine.

How would ball powder be effected by the red wax not being on the primer and not a flake powder?
The purpose of the red lacquer is to keep powder out of the flash part of the primer. Ball powders are finely grained and could infiltrate the "guts" of the primer. Flake powders do not pose this problem, if it is, in fact, a problem. Titewad is a "ball"powder.

Thanks to all for the info. Just curious, if the wax covering the hole is not needed, why does the manufacturer put it on the primers in the first place?

If the powder entered the "guts" of the primer how would this prevent the chemical reaction in the primer to fail?
