A friend of mine gave me a large quantity of Remington (OEM) Fig 8 wads.

I want to load STS, Win 209 primer, using Clays or Green Dot powder in 1 oz loads. Most data calls for the TGT12 wad.

If I use these Fig 8 wads which are more often used for 1 1/8 oz loads, will I have a stack/ crimp issue?

I have always used CB, never Remington wads before. Thanks.

I've loaded thousands of 1 oz shells with the Fig 8 wad. The crimps will likely be a little deep, but no problem. I load them on a MEC Grabber with an Automate drive. Might require a slight adjustment to the final crimp station.

Heard a story many many years ago.

Remington came out with a fig 8 wad, not sure but could have been around the introduction of the green premier hulls.
As the story goes, the reloaders were complaining that the reloaded shell crimp would open up, wad too long in length and no one was happy about it so Remington did a redesign of the fig 8 wad buy cutting down the two circles that made the fig 8 so it ended up being shorter in length, the new fig 8 wad-white in color.

The original green full circle fig 8 wad was now re labeled as the TGT12 and you were told to use it for 1 oz loads.

If you were to open a new box of 1-1/8 oz loads from back then, they had the green wad, the one we know today as the TGT12

Only an older Remington rep could back this up but thats what I was told way back then.

Believe it....or not.

Today switching wads for proper stack height is very common depending on the powder used, back then, not so much.

Bash away.......

^^"POWDER-special blend to minimize recoil sensation."

"WAD...Lighter weight for lower recoil." This part technically is true but the recoil difference is so slight humans are incapable of perceiving it. Great marketing people.

Load them in gun clubs…17.5 700x on my spolar …. keep your shot drop tube high…some times you get a crappy hull that won’t look like you want it to, but it still shoots….I also bought a extra drop tube and ground 3/16ths off the length…this really works well with straight walled hulls.….have fun😃👍
